Weld Volume / Weld Metal Mass Estimator
Estimates theoretical weld volume from a cross-section area and a weld length, and — when a density is supplied — theoretical deposited weld metal mass. A theoretical geometry/arithmetic estimate only. It does not measure a real weld, does not estimate actual consumable usage or a purchase quantity, does not estimate cost, and does not decide inspection or standard-compliance acceptance or approve a WPS/PQR.

No weld-volume or weld-metal-mass formula stated by ISO 5817, ISO 9606, ISO 15614, AWS, IWE Module 2, or any other source is cited or claimed for this calculator. Its core arithmetic (theoreticalVolumeCm3 = crossSectionAreaMm2 * weldLengthM; depositedMassG = theoreticalVolumeCm3 * densityGPerCm3) is this project's own engineering arithmetic / geometric implementation model — the general physical identities volume = area * length and mass = density * volume, the same identity pair FR-012 (Weld Length from Deposited Mass) already applies in reverse — not attributed to any welding standard or compendium. FR-013 (Fillet Weld Area / Throat Geometry) is named only as a possible future source of crossSectionAreaMm2, and FR-005 (Deposit Coefficient / Deposited Cross-Section) only for the related deposited-cross-section-area concept — neither is cited as proof of this calculator's own volume/mass model. Assumptions
- Constant cross-section area along the entire weld length — no allowance for a tapering, stepped, or varying cross-section.
- The entered area represents the intended theoretical deposited cross-section, not a measured value.
- The entered length represents the weld length to be estimated, not a measured value.
- Density is manually entered and assumed constant, when mode "massFromVolume" is used.
- 1 m x 1 mm2 = 1 cm3, exactly, with no conversion factor beyond unit arithmetic.
- No allowance for waste/loss between consumable and deposited mass.
- No overfill, convexity, concavity, penetration, or root-gap allowance.
- No design-code acceptance check of any kind.
- Result requires engineering review — this calculator does not determine actual consumable requirements, cost, or production acceptance.
